Support for Flex and Rigid-Flex Design
A rigid-flex circuit combines the processing capabilities of a rigid circuit with the design versatility of a flexible one. The bulk of the components are placed on rigid circuits, which are then connected by flexible circuits that can be twisted, bent, and folded into small or unconventional places. Altium Designer now supports electronics design using these rigid-flex circuits, which opens the door to a variety of new innovations. It allows for smaller packaging of electronics, which in turn leads to lower cost of materials and production, as well as increased durability.

Board Design Enhancements
Altium Designer 14 includes a number of requested enhancements to our board design technologies. With our new differential pair routing tool, impedance is consistently maintained when the trace gap is changed. Via Stitching has been significantly improved to give neat results and greater control.
Support for Embedded Components
Components embedded within the layer stack of a PCB, reduce space and support higher signal frequencies, reduced signal noise, and increased circuit signal integrity. Altium Designer 14 supports embedding of discrete components, manufactured as individual entities and placed on an inner layer of the circuit during assembly.
True variant support
Design variants based on the same underlying design saves you time when designing different iterations of the same product. Support for design variants has been enhanced to deliver the ability to change not just component parameters, but to replace the component with an entirely different one.
